JON MOXLEY WINS THE IWGP WORLD TITLE AND MAKES HISTORY

Jon Moxley made history at NJPW Windy City Riot by winning the IWGP world title, in the main event of NJPW Windy City Riot, last Friday, Jon Moxley challenged then IWGP world champion Tetsuya Naito for the belt. The match marked the third defense of Naito's reign since its beginning, in a victory against SANADA at this year's WrestleKingdom. The chance came after winning last year's G1 Climax.

Mox was hit in the head with a chair and left bleeding, but he still came back and defeated Naito via pinfall after two consecutive Death Riders, thus becoming the new IWGP world champion. With the achievement, Jon Moxley adds another great feat to his legendary pro-wrestling career. He became the first wrestler ever to hold the WWE, AEW, and NJPW top titles.

Despite the euphoria, fans were worried about the result, fearing that Moxley, due to his contract with AEW, would not appear regularly in the Japanese company. However, it has been revealed that the wrestler is booked for subsequent events in Japan, and has been given an extended break from his AEW commitments. His last program in the American company was a rivalry against CMLL, alongside BCC.
