GUNTHER EXCEEDS 500 DAYS AS INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION
Known as one of the best wrestlers of all time, the Imperium leader's career in WWE continues to impress, especially since his call up to the main roster. Epic clashes against superstars like Sheamus and Drew McIntyre have received critical praise, solidifying his position as one of the company's top talents.
In June 2022, Ring General won the Intercontinental Championship by defeating Ricochet, marking his first title on the main WWE roster. While many expected a dominant reign, few could have predicted that Gunther would surpass a legend like The Honky Tonk Man, setting a record with the longest reign in the history of the Intercontinental Championship.
With no one yet able to unlock the secret to defeating The Ring General, the record continues to grow every day and has now reached a remarkable milestone – Gunther has now been champion for 500 days. If he can hold the title for another 4 days, he will surpass Brock Lesnar's reign as Universal Champion, becoming one of WWE's greatest champions.
However, the Imperium leader has yet to surpass his even more impressive reign as Champion of the United Kingdom, a remarkable feat that spanned an incredible 870 days.
Recently, Gunther was challenged by an old rival, Ilja Dragunov, who currently holds the NXT Championship. Dragunov is one of the few wrestlers to have scored a legitimate victory over the WWE Intercontinental Champion, and he revealed that WrestleMania could be the venue for his next showdown with The Ring General.
