WWE NOMINATED FOR SPORTS EMMY AWARDS 2023
It is well known that WWE has expressed its desire to receive an Emmy nomination several times in the past. In the company's eyes, television work on shows like RAW and SmackDown has been strong enough in recent years to deserve this recognition.
In the last few hours, WWE has echoed its first nomination for any of the awards given by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The company was nominated at the 44th edition of the Sports Emmy Awards in the category of “Best Feature Documentary”. The academy placed Ric Flair's documentary released in late 2022 in the same category as others like The Redeem Team, Citizen Ashe and After Jackie.
Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair was released on December 26, 2022 by WWE Network and Peacock. This documentary stood out among others focused on the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, featuring "the never-before-revealed story of the one and only Nature Boy". The material also includes interviews with stars in and out of professional wrestling such as Hulk Hogan, Mike Tyson, Post Malone, Stephen A. Smith and Charlotte Flair.
The Sports Emmy Awards will take place on Wednesday, May 24 at the Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. The television transmission of this gala has not yet been confirmed by the academy.
